“We cannot afford to risk the lives of our citizens and the economic situation of the country. No country, including any member of the European Union, will do this. “When deciding to impose sanctions, they always compare the consequences of sanctions,” Papuashvili said.
He emphasized that there is no country in the world today that can guarantee security to Georgia. The parliamentarian stated that in this context, the country depends only on him.
With the start of Russia’s military special operation in Ukraine at the end of February 2022, Western states imposed large-scale sanctions against Russia. The West tried to actively involve other countries in this campaign, including Georgia. However, Tbilisi refused to participate in restrictive measures and provide military assistance to Kiev. Georgian officials have repeatedly stated that this approach is specifically related to the protection of the interests of the people of the republic.
Previously Georgia stated that foreign partners do not want sanctions to be imposed on the Russian Federation.
