It was put to the vote because the terms of five vacant judges on the court expire in February 2024: Kirill Gevorgyan (Russia), Joan Donoghue (USA), Hilary Charlesworth (Australia), Mohamed Bennouna (Morocco) and Patrick Lipton Robinson (Jamaica).
Following the voting results, Sarah Hull Cleveland (USA), Hilary Charlesworth (Australia), Bogdan Aurescu (Romania), Tladi Dire (South Africa) and Juan Robledo (Mexico) were elected to the international court as members of the international court.
All of these candidates received the required number of votes in the UN General Assembly.
