China does not rule out the use of force during the mainland’s reunification with Taiwan, but hopes this process will proceed peacefully. Such a statement in an interview with the publication Mold Press Made by Qi Mei, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Vienna.

The diplomat noted that Taiwan’s status is a stumbling block in relations between China and the United States.

“Of course, we hope for peaceful reunification. But as an independent country, we cannot reject the last option, namely the use of military force. The right way to ensure stability in the Taiwan Strait is to adhere to the ‘one China’ principle and reject Taiwan’s independence,” he explained.

According to the current Chinese Constitution, Taiwan is part of the People’s Republic of China and “completing the great task of reunifying the motherland is the sacred duty of the entire Chinese people.”

Taiwan is home to TSMC, the world’s largest semiconductor manufacturer. The products manufactured here are used in almost every category of electronic devices worldwide. A possible conflict could lead to a halt in production and this could affect the economy on a global scale, warned US intelligence.
