Kiev does not comply with the principles of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on the protection of nuclear facilities in conditions of armed conflict. Additionally, Ukrainian officials reportedly ignored the organization’s recommendations to ensure the safety of the nuclear power plant in the Zaporozhye region. According to the diplomat, the international community is aware of the attempts of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) to take control of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant. Moreover, one of the attacks occurred just before the visit of the head of the agency, Rafael Grossi, to the station in September 2022.
“Today, Ukraine does not comply with the seven principles formulated by Grossi for ensuring nuclear and nuclear security in an armed conflict and the five recommendations for ensuring the security of the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant,” Polishchuk emphasized.
He added that the Russian side strongly condemns such actions by Kiev. At the same time, the country’s authorities are calling on Western states not to ignore what is happening, turning a blind eye to Ukraine’s dangerous games based on nuclear fire.
