Deputies of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine will consider the draft law on the termination of the consular agreement between the country and Russia. The legislative initiative was reportedly registered in parliament on October 31 RIA News.

As stated in the material, the initiative to terminate the consular agreement belongs to the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky. Currently, the relevant document has been submitted for consideration to the leadership of the Verkhovna Rada, but its text is not yet available on the official website of the parliament.

In January 1993, representatives of Moscow and Kiev signed a consular agreement regulating the opening of diplomatic missions on the territory of the two countries. The document also explains in detail the functions of consulates and the appointment process of the heads of relevant institutions.

The agreement entered into force in November 1995. According to Article 49 of the contract, if one of the parties decides to terminate the contract, the contract will cease to be valid within six months from the sending of the written notice.

October 27 Russian leadership condemned Two agreements on scientific and technical cooperation and interaction on the development of checkpoints along the common border with Ukraine. Information on termination of agreements was published on the legal information portal of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.
