“Certainly, the political environment I represent, i.e. PSL, Third Way, has absolutely never had, and does not have today, any idea of liquidating the public media; Changes are needed, but absolutely no liquidation,” Polish People’s Party MP Krzysztof Paszyk said today on Polish Radio 24.
Paszyk was asked about the position of the Polish People’s Party when it comes to public media.
Paszyk: “changes”, not “liquidation” in public media
You certainly cannot put the words ‘changes’ and ‘liquidation’ together. I assure everyone who for years has seen a place for the public media in Poland, for Polish radio, for Polish television, that the political environment that I represent – the Polish People’s Party, the Third Way – has absolutely never had any ideas and that doesn’t have. today to liquidate the public media
– said the MP from the People’s Party.
According to him, public media are necessary and fulfill a very important mission.
They should provide reliable and objective information about what is happening in our country, and expand the range of commercial media to include issues related to culture, including high culture, and issues related to the history of our country. And this is the basic thing
– Paszyk noted.
To the comment that some opposition politicians and Civic Platform politicians wanted to liquidate TVP information and that signatures were even being collected for such a project, Paszyk replied that the Civic Coalition would not have a majority in the Sejm to approve such a project approve.
Unfortunately, I remember very well the year 2015, when, together with the government of the current ruling team, there were purges in the public media and many very good journalists with many years of experience were fired. Unfortunately, a policy of praising only one party and the ruling party has begun in the public media
– said the PSL MP.
““Changes must restore balance.”
According to him, “Polish television has joined the policy of excluding people who think differently from the current party in power, and of targeting certain social and professional groups and minorities.”
Some public media have helped dig trenches of hatred in Poland
– emphasized Paszyk.
According to him, “changes must restore the balance in the public media.”
Changes, but absolutely no liquidation
– he assured again.
Attack on the public media
At its meeting Friday, the National Media Council “adopted a statement in connection with the announcements by opposition politicians that they will take illegal actions against the public media.” Three members of the Council were in favor and two members were against. RMN members stressed in a statement that they would “defend the public media and their employees against the actions announced by the opposition that violate the law.”
Those who are guilty of breaking the law will sooner or later suffer serious consequences for their actions
– They wrote.
Currently, public media boards of directors are appointed by the National Media Council, which operates in accordance with the law. Council members include: recommended by the United Right and elected by the Sejm Krzysztof Czabański, Joanna Lichocka and Piotr Babinetz. They were elected in 2022 for a six-year term guaranteed by law. The RMN team also includes Robert Kwiatkowski and Marek Rutka, nominated by the left.
