“We do not rule out that we will take turns chairing the Sejm. This is one of the options,” PO spokesperson Jan Grabiec said today on TVN24. As he said, the coalition agreement will contain statements of course of action rather than full program details. “The diplomacy of the new government will be able to make specific claims regarding war losses and obtain specific amounts,” he said when asked on Radio Plus about ongoing efforts to obtain reparations from Germany.
Grabiec: The talks are approaching the final
Grabiec stressed that the structure of the future government, formed by the current opposition parties, must correspond to the parliamentary system, while at the same time being a partnership government.
It’s not about dominating anyone. There will be hard times and a government consisting of four coalition parties must be functional
– he pointed out.
He indicated that the coalition talks are approaching the final phase.
The conversations are going very well. There is no significant barrier
– he assessed. As he said, there is a concept of a coalition agreement that covers all the details.
Which coalition agreement?
I don’t think there will be such a coalition agreement, even though we are talking about many details and the government program for the first days and months. I think it will be more of a statement of conductbecause it must be a universal action
– noted the PO spokesperson.
When asked whether the President of the Sejm would be rotating or permanent, he admitted that the solutions currently in place in the European Parliament regarding rotation seem to make sense.
If we have four groups forming a coalition, (…) I do not rule out solutions that involve compromise,” he said. “We do not rule out rotation, it is one of the options
– added.
He noted that this would be decided by the leaders of the coalition parties.
Kidawa-Błońska is the President of the Senate?
When asked whether Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska would become Senate President, Grabiec replied that no decision had been made yet.
However, Donald Tusk certainly cares about women’s participation in the system of power, but who that will be and whether that will happen in the Senate will become clear in the coming days.
– he said.
He let us know important ministries will be divided among all coalition parties. When asked whether there would be three deputy prime ministers representing the remaining coalition parties, he replied that this was the starting point from PO’s perspective, but that the expectations of the coalition partners were different.
We are open to the preferences of our partners
– he assured.
On November 14, we will be ready to appoint a government
– stated Grabiec.
What about reparations?
The PO spokesperson was asked whether the new government created by the current opposition groups would raise the issue of reparations from Germany.
First of all, I am not aware of any action that this government (United Right – ed.) has taken on this issue. PiS politicians only talked about reparations in Poland. If they brought it up somewhere abroad, it was maybe once or twice in silence. They sent a note after our insistence, because after the announcement we asked that Poland demanded reparations, what they did about it.
– Grabiec replied.
We will look for ways in which Germany can finance Poland’s development not only through the EU, because Germany is a net contributor in the EU and we benefit from that. Although unfortunately Poland during the PiS government finances Germany, because Germany uses EU funds and we don’t, but we pay off our debts.
– he said.
Grabiec was also asked whether the new government would be more effective when it comes to reparations.
We may make specific claims and obtain specific amounts
– he replied, adding that the new government’s diplomacy will certainly be able to do this “more effectively than the PiS government.”
September 1 last year a report was presented on the losses suffered by Poland as a result of German aggression and occupation during the Second World War. October 3 last year Foreign Minister Zbigniew Rau signed a diplomatic note on the German side about war compensation. Poland is demanding, among other things, compensation for material and intangible losses amounting to PLN 6 trillion, PLN 220 billion, PLN 609 million and compensation for damages.
January 3 this year The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announces that the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs has responded to this note. According to the German government, the issue of reparations and compensation for war losses remains closed and the German government has no intention of starting negotiations on this matter.
