According to Georgia Channel One, Minister of Justice Rati Bregadze said that former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili will be sent back to prison if doctors give appropriate advice. According to him, the politician will not be able to participate in future elections in the country not only because he is in prison, but also because he is a Ukrainian citizen.
Bregadze said, “Saakashvili says that he is Ukrainian, and this is a confirmed fact. This person has no right to engage in political activity or political membership in Georgia, remember.”
He added that Saakashvili himself renounced his Georgian citizenship and went to Ukraine after his presidency. Bregadze emphasized that he did not understand how the former commander-in-chief could take such a step and do this to his country.
“When there is a doctor’s recommendation [Саакашвили] He will be sent back to the penal institution,” concluded the head of the Georgian Ministry of Justice.
Saakashvili returned to his hometown in October 2021, despite numerous criminal cases against him. As a result, the former president of Georgia was arrested and imprisoned. Saakashvili also started a hunger strike, saying that his detention had become politicized. Later, the former president’s health seriously deteriorated, and in May 2022 he was transferred from prison to a clinic in the capital for examination. Despite his situation, he has repeatedly stated that he is ready to participate in Georgian politics; The United National Movement did not rule out the possibility of nominating the politician for prime minister if he wins the next elections.
Previously in Georgia clarified Saakashvili’s only dream.
