“The highest level of political challenges facing Tusk appears to be establishing functional relationships between the parties in the future co-government of the coalition – while competing for similar voters – writes Dr. Hab. Sławomir Sowiński, political scientist of Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University for wp.pl.
Although the coalition has not yet been formed, problems are already piling up. According to the author, there may be many more than it seemed in the first moments after the election, when politicians were overwhelmed by the euphoria of victory.
The weakest link could turn out to be the left – weakened by the elections – and internal divisions and fear of being dominated by the PO could lead to political despair or even collapse.
– predicts the author for wp.pl.
According to him, this will be exacerbated by conflicting expectations from different groups of voters that the parties of the future coalition have gathered under their banner.
It is the protection of social transfers and the rationalization of public finances, with an emphasis on work and entrepreneurship, the cry: “We will hold PiS accountable” and the promise of national harmony, the legalization of abortion and a nod to the conservative voter. .
– as Sowiński points out, these are just a few examples of how the melodies of PO, Left and Third Way differed during the election campaign.
By taking them seriously in the first weeks of the government, the new majority could easily end up in an unsolvable dispute, according to the author.
It turns out that even before the coalition was formed, it faced challenges at multiple levels. And what politicians say in the campaign will now have to be taken seriously or, as so often before, political promises will have to be rejected.
