“The task of the party leaders of the forming coalition should be to draw up a common program to respond to voters’ expectations, with a particular emphasis on women’s rights. I see no trace of program conversations. It is time for us to talk about it loudly,” one of the leaders of the left, Magdalena Biejat, said on Radio Zet.
According to the co-chairman of the Razem party, the topic of taking positions dominates the conversations within the emerging KO-Left-Third Way coalition. Meanwhile, as she said, “the fundamental issue is not who will hold what position, but what program this government will form.”
What worries me today is that we don’t talk about it. (…) I see no trace of program conversations among themselves. It’s high time we started talking about it out loud
– Biejat emphasized.
There is no program
Today I would like to hear the details of this government. This government is here to change Poland. We did not come to the left to take positions. It is clear that Poles voted for change because PiS rule was a tragedy. Drama on every level. At the level of violating women’s rights, at the level of destroying state institutions, at the level of destroying our relations with the European Union, at the level of destroying household budgets
– Biejat noted.
However, today the Poles, the voters, deserve to talk about the direction of the government that will be formed
– she emphasized.
As she noted, it should be the task of opposition leaders to establish a common program to meet voters’ expectations, with a particular emphasis on women’s rights.
This is where leaders make a mistake. (…) We had a record turnout in these elections, we also had a record turnout among women. Nowadays women ask about their rights and the permissibility of terminating a pregnancy
– she pointed.
Abortion in the contract
The leader of the left noted that the issue of liberalizing abortion laws should be included in the coalition agreement, despite possible opposition from the Third Way. She considered it a minimum to include a point on the decriminalization of abortion.
I understand that PSL, Third Way does not have a clear position on the legalization of abortion. This is the position of the Left and the Civic Platform. That is why I believe that the absolute minimum that should be included in the coalition agreement is the decriminalization of abortion, that is, the abolition of the penalty for assisting with termination of pregnancy.
– said Biejat.
Biejat pointed out that the coalition of opposition groups should not split over the issue of abortion. She also noted that the decision to choose the head of the platform, Donald Tusk, as the opposition parties’ candidate for prime minister was made by consensus.
We are all aware that this government must be formed because this is the will of the voters. (…) No one wants to put obstacles in the way of this government, everyone knows that it must be established
– Biejat said.
It is no secret to anyone that Donald Tusk is not our ideal candidate for prime minister. But it is also no secret that most groups that want to form a government today have decided to support this candidacy
– she emphasized.
