“We often talk with PSL, even yesterday,” Przemysław Czarnek, Minister of Education and Science, said on Radio Zet about the chances of forming a PiS-PSL government. When asked with whom discussions were taking place, he replied: “with PSL, but with whom I will not say.”
There is certainly a chance that the president will appoint Mateusz Morawiecki, the current prime minister, as prime minister. And what will happen later: there will be four weeks of intensive discussions
– said Minister Czarnek.
Referring to the question of whether these are conversations with very high-ranking figures, the PiS politician replied:
Absolutely yes
Minister Czarnek added that he had spoken with People’s Party members many times over the past three years, “including in their offices.”
I never hid it. Our cooperation has been very good and will continue to be very good. What will come of it, I don’t know
– he emphasized.
Housework remains?
Minister Czarnek also referred to the loud calls for a ban on assigning homework to students. The abolition of domestic work was announced by the Citizens’ Coalition during the election campaign. Szymon Hołownia, the leader of Poland 2050, spoke about giving up housework.
There is no regulation that requires students to be given homework; it is up to the teachers and the schools themselves to decide how to implement the curriculum.
– he said.
First of all, what to eliminate if it doesn’t exist? There is no legal provision that homework is mandatory. This is the job of every teacher, every school: they decide how to implement the program
– he pointed out.
But imagine there is a ban: we don’t give homework, then Mr. Piotr Kowalski, a student of the first grade of some high school, comes to school the next day and says: I don’t write the test because I don’t was prepared. Why? Because there is a ban on domestic work. The liquidation of the school means the abolition of the homework done by the Civic Platform. Congratulations!
– the minister pointed out.
Does he think that if homework is abolished, school will also be abolished?
If there is no obligation, or in other words: there is a ban on assigning homework, that is, preparing for classes at home, how do you want Piotr Kowalski from the first year of secondary school to prepare for the test the next day? he will say that he has not prepared because he is not obliged to do so
– he pointed.
Study overload
He also commented on the statement that students were overloaded with learning.
This is another problem. We are working on it. Our expert committees are slimming down the core curriculum because the schedule is really too demanding, but this doesn’t mean homework should be eliminated. We want to eliminate homework from our program for groups I-III (primary schools – PAP), for the youngest children who are anyway in community centers and can do their homework there with their teachers.
– said the head of MEiN.
The Minister of Education, Culture and Science was also asked about vouchers for teachers to purchase laptops and his statement that everyone would receive them. The interviewer pointed out that only some teachers received these.
They will receive. Did I mention when they will receive it? This school year they will receive (…). Everyone should receive it by December 31st
– assured Czarnek.
Competencies for teachers
In accordance with the Law on Supporting the Development of Digital Competencies of Students and Teachers, teachers will receive a voucher worth PLN 2,500 for the purchase of a laptop or browser laptop. This applies – as stated in the law – to teachers, trainers and other pedagogical employees who are employed at public and non-public primary and secondary schools on September 30, 2023.
The law also stipulates that the minister responsible for computerization must determine by regulation the groups of teachers of public and non-public primary and secondary schools who are entitled to support and their order, taking into account the type of school and the subject covered by the teacher is taught, as well as the social situation: -economic and the state of public finances.
According to the issued regulation, from October 10, applications for a voucher can be applied for by primary school teachers: grades IV-VIII, primary school teachers, after-school club teachers, teacher librarians and teachers on maternity and parental leave.
The motivation for the draft regulation states that the group of qualified teachers will be expanded in the future with additional groups of teachers.
