Tomorrow, on October 19, representatives of the G7 countries will discuss alternative options for a ban on the import of Russian diamonds from 2024. This was reported by Reuters.
The publication states that I will consider offers from Belgium, India, France and the World Diamond Council (WDC) as part of a meeting at the country’s technical level. Agency sources emphasize that in order for this ban to be implemented before January 1, 2024, all details of the restrictions that will come as of November 2023 must be clarified.
Sources emphasize that the ban on the import of Russian diamonds was postponed because it was not direct and only applied to Russian diamonds entering the G7 countries from outside Russia.
Before that it was known in Belgium. I won’t go into Ban on imports of Russian diamonds until at least 2024.
According to Prime Minister Alexander De Croo, the ban can only be implemented after the mechanism agreed upon by the G7 countries for tracking the origin of diamonds becomes operational. It is expected to start operating on January 1, 2024. De Croo believes the ban should not happen prematurely.
