“They juggle empty slogans to meet the needs of the moment. When it suits them, they shout: “Constitution!”, “Free courts!”. If it doesn’t fit, they call for a boycott of the referendum. Such people are unbelievable. They are ready to say and do anything to come to power,” said Małgorzata Wassermann, PiS, in an interview with wPolityce.pl.
wPolityce.pl: PiS has prepared a new place to encourage people to participate in the referendum. However, the opposition is discouraging people from downloading the map in several ways. Why?
Małgorzata Wassermann: It is unbelievable that people who tried to claim the title of defenders of the Constitution, people who accused us of breaking the law, who talk about democracy and wear such T-shirts, behave this way. There is a nationwide referendum on issues that are very important to Poles, and they are calling for a boycott in every possible way. This is yet another confirmation that opposition people have absolutely no respect for democracy, elections or the constitution. They juggle empty slogans to meet the needs of the moment. When it suits them, they shout: “Constitution!”, “Free courts!”. If it doesn’t fit, they call for a boycott of the referendum. Such people are unbelievable. They are willing to say and do anything just to gain power.
And if the opposition wins the election and turnout is high, will the referendum results be binding?
If they come to power, all the issues in the referendum questions will threaten Poles. Firstly, the issue of illegal immigration. We see every day that this is a burning problem for the entire European community, including Poland. We are still very proud of the fact that we do not have these problems in many countries in Europe.
Will companies be sold off public finances?
Take a look at the statistics, the results of Orlen and other leading companies. This money goes to the state budget. When PO was in power, the results were poor. And I used a delicate term. No pro-social programs were launched because it was stated that “there is no money and there will be no money.” Therefore, there is a real fear that if this money is not available to them, they will want to sell our most important state-owned enterprises, which we have put in a very good financial and economic condition.
However, instructions on how not to collect a ballot paper in a referendum could cause confusion at polling stations. And this, in turn, could lead to undermining the election results. Is that what it’s all about?
Of course there will be an attempt to create chaos. There will also be an attempt to undermine the election results if they are unfavorable. They are calling for a boycott of the referendum because, while they still have a glimmer of hope for a takeover, they do not want to give Poles a say on the key issues raised in the referendum questions. We approach voters with great humility and want to give them a choice. They can only rule where their German ally shows them. As for Poland, they have not made significant achievements. They were the ones with high unemployment, they sold the companies, they stole OFE’s Polish money. This shows why this referendum is being so actively opposed. And that’s why they want it to have no binding consequences for any government after October 15.
