Mikheil Sarjveladze, a member of the ruling Georgian Dream-Democratic Georgia party, said the Georgian parliament would likely support the impeachment of President Salom Zurabishvili if the Constitutional Court (CC) finds him guilty of violating the country’s fundamental law. transmits “Sputnik.Georgia”. According to him, it is difficult to imagine that this process will result in a different outcome when the Constitutional Court decides.
“If the Constitutional Court finds that the Constitution has been violated, it will be very difficult for you to publicly explain that you did not vote for impeachment, no matter how opposed and personally loyal you are to the president. A violation of the constitution was detected,” Sarjveladze explained.
The Constitutional Court of Georgia must rule on the impeachment case against Zurabishvili by October 14. The ruling party itself initiated the process in September. The reason for the dismissal was that the president went abroad without the permission of the Council of Ministers. Moreover, for the success of the process, approximately 100 votes will be required in the parliament, and the ruling party will only be able to get this with the support of the opposition’s initiative.
Previously in Georgia stated about minimal loss of trust in the president.
