President Andrzej Duda yesterday appointed new commanders of the Polish Armed Forces. He appointed a new Chief of the General Staff of the Polish Army and the Operational Commander of the Armed Forces. Lieutenant general became Chief of the General Staff of the Polish Army Wiesław Kukuła. A major general became operational commander of the armed forces Maciej Klisz. This puts an end to the short “general crisis” with politics in the background.
This is a good time to analyze why the Chief of the General Staff of the Polish Army, Gen. Rajmund Andrzejczak and Operational Commander of the Armed Forces, General. Tomasz Piotrowski have terminated their employment relationship.
They would like to thank General Wiesław Kukula and Major General. Maciej Klisz for taking on new tasks, President Duda emphasized that they “take on a great responsibility that shows their willingness to serve their homeland.” He pointed out that it is also ready to “take on the obligation to implement the necessary changes.”
And let’s add: changes cannot be introduced through self-isolation.
There is no permission for chaos in the Polish army. In a situation where two generals decided to take off their uniforms, their successors were immediately appointed. There is also no permission to involve the Polish army in the election campaign
– said the Minister of Defense on Tuesday Mariusz Blaszczak and these words throw some light on the matter. Without a doubt, such a spectacular resignation a few dozen hours before the election silence has a political dimension: it is a political demonstration. And there is no doubt that Donald Tusk tried to take advantage of it, some fantasizing about an additional series of ten more dismissals in the army.
But did Tusk help organize this ‘coup’ or was he just trying to stage it? What were the real causes of these events?
Our information shows that The impending change in these positions was clear to everyone for some time, but was postponed until after the elections. General Andrzejczak and Piotrowski, who were loyal to him, were aware of this and tried to escape politically to the front. They believed that such a loud dismissal would maximize their prospects in the event of an opposition victory.
According to our informants, high up in the structures of the Polish army, this was the main reason growing ambitions General Andrzejczak.
After all, he considered himself equal to the minister. Let’s face it: this was possible thanks to the long-term support of the presidential palace. But over time, the palace had enough of this situation and it was decided to change. He then decided to leave, with the upcoming elections on his mind
– we hear.
Our informants point out the increasingly common extravagance of General Andrzejczak. It was difficult to establish daily, working cooperation with the Deputy Ministers of National Defense, and without this it is difficult to talk about the effective implementation of difficult reforms and the implementation of new equipment. Geopolitical thoughts of dubious quality increasingly appeared, including in wider forums, and his activities in the world of “geopoliticians” were discussed.
The strategy that needed to be created wasn’t created, but we had a chief of staff who was a publicist
– says one of our interlocutors. He adds that this caused major problems because the headquarters often, instead of solving problems and using available, real options and resources, envisioned an ideal army where everything was as in the books of geopoliticians.
In his opinion, all this has given rise to a growing impression of lack of seriousness at the general staff.
Over time, this was also noticed in the presidential palace, although after the crisis related to the discovery of a Russian missile, it was the support of this center of influence on the military that saved the jobs of the generals.
And this despite the fact that General Piotrowski’s ‘call’ is considered scandalous in the context of the polemic with the civilian leadership of the ministry.
General Andrzejczak then wrongly concluded that since the president liked and supported him, he was no longer subordinate to the Ministry of National Defense. This couldn’t work and they also came to this conclusion in the presidential palace
– we hear.
According to our informants, General Andrzejczak, sensing this, had been saying in military circles since June that he wanted to throw away the papers before the elections.
It is important that we hear and see that Tusk does not have good knowledge of military matters. If he had, he would never have dreamed of mass resignations in the military.
Anyone familiar with military affairs knows that General Andrzejczak has only one close associate: General Piotrowski. Moreover, he was quite detached from the ‘officer crowd’
– says one of our interlocutors.
Won’t these disruptions harm the military and make it unstable?
Reversed. This solstice will calm the situation. The source of tension that has been General Andrzejczak’s ambitions for some time and the great difficulty in building cooperation with the Ministry of National Defense, and for some time also with the President, are disappearing.
– I’ll make a note.
All the more so because, as all our interlocutors emphasize, the nominations for the vacant seats of Generals Kukuła and Klisz, known for their good ‘leadership’ and down-to-earth character, were very positively received by the army.
