At Friday’s European Council meeting, I will say that Poland definitively rejects migration solutions on security grounds; we want peace, security and predictability – Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki emphasized before the European Council meeting.
Prime Minister in Grenada: ‘Poland has a powerful veto over such a position’
On Friday, Prime Minister Morawiecki will take part in an informal meeting of the European Council in Granada, Spain – among the topics will be the proposed solutions regarding migration to the European Union; The head of the Polish government referred to this issue in a statement to the press on Friday morning.

Everyone here admits that Tusk’s party has agreed to support the migration pact in recent days. This means that Europe wants to implement these solutions. If Tusk’s party comes to power in Poland, these solutions will be introduced: illegal migrants will be localized, (…) distributed to individual countries; Poland has a strong veto against this position. I said this to many Prime Ministers yesterday, and interestingly many agree with me
– said the Prime Minister.
As he said, “they are afraid of this diktat coming from Brussels and Berlin.”
We are not afraid of this diktat – we have already shown once between 2015 and 2018 that, regardless of the decision-making procedures in the EU, in June 2018 we made it possible for a clear indication to appear in the European Council conclusions – there is no possibility of dispersing illegal immigrants without the consent of the individual Member States; it was Poland that won then
– said the Prime Minister.
There was peace for five years; in June of this year, Brussels, again dictated by Berlin, with the support of Tusk’s party, began to implement its plan; a plan to accept illegal immigrants and impose draconian penalties on the countries that will not accept them. I told several Prime Ministers yesterday, and today I will say at the plenary, that Poland strongly rejects this, primarily because of the security of our country.
– Mateusz Morawiecki added.
We want peace, security and predictability. The government of Law and Justice is predictable; What we did five years ago, today and at the next Council we will defend Poland’s right to security in the same way, if this is the decision of the voters.
– said the Prime Minister.
Migration pact
The final part of the Migration and Asylum Pact was adopted in Brussels on Wednesday during a meeting of ambassadors of the Member States to the EU. Poland and Hungary were against. Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Austria abstained. This concerns so-called crisis regulation. The decision opens the way for starting negotiations with the European Parliament on the final form of the new regulations. A debate also took place on Wednesday at the EP plenary in Strasbourg entitled “The need to quickly adopt the asylum and migration package.”
