“We will participate in meetings of all leaders of the EU countries. In both cases, the fundamental topic of discussion will be the migration pact and what the institutions and some European countries are proposing. It must be said: the problem is not new, we know it very well. It was published in 2014-2015. We remember the decisions of the PO-PSL government, Donald Tusk, Ewa Kopacz, and the PO government’s agreement to the quota system for the admission of immigrants to Poland,” President Duda said during a joint statement to the media with Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki. The head of the Polish government emphasized that Poland would not agree to the dictates of Brussels and Berlin.
Poland is carrying out its duties
The President recalled that when the government in Poland changed in 2015, the position on the immigrant issue also changed.
We have been against the quota system and forced relocations from the very beginning. We argued that it cannot be the case that when a problem arises, it is solved by imposing it on everyone. We must take preventive measures, actions that will implement the obligations of the Member States, ie defend the EU’s borders. As Poles, we fulfill our duties from the very beginning. Our position on illegal migration and displacement has been uniform and unchanged since 2015
– emphasized President Duda.
The politician pointed out that when Poland was attacked in a hybrid manner by the Belarusian regime, the state did not give in and resolutely resisted the attack in order to “adequately fulfill its duties as an EU Member State, as a state that is an EU and Schengen border. .
We have assured our EU allies that we will honor our commitments. We guarded our border. I would like to thank all the border guards, police, soldiers and volunteers who supported them for their services. This mission has been accomplished and is being carried out effectively. This ensures the safety of all of us and fulfills our membership obligations. This position does not change
– assured the President.
The crucial importance of the referendum
President Duda pointed out that the problem of relocation has returned and the system itself only solves the consequences but does not address the problem.
Poland consistently says no. We are against this and will present this position today and tomorrow at international meetings within the EU. Fortunately, we have a unified position between the president and the government. This is a model example of excellent cooperation that delivers good results for Poland. We managed to convince some of our partners in 2015 and 2016, we managed to torpedo ideas to solve the problem at our expense. Today we will do everything we can to prevent this
– said President Duda.
But what is extremely important is that we operate on the basis of stable and recognized – at least verbally, in the EU – principles. The guiding principle is the principle of democracy. We believed and still believe that the voice of Polish society is the most faithful. That is why there will be a referendum on this issue. I appeal to my compatriots, to everyone, to participate in the referendum. We must express ourselves collectively, as a nation, as those who decide the fate of the country. The result of the referendum gives the government the legitimacy to clearly demonstrate the will of society at the EU forum. This will is of the utmost importance
– Andrzej Duda emphasized.
Today, the ruling groups in Europe are trying to impose their opinions, their positions and their ideological approach on the nations. We do not agree with this, we believe that the most important thing is the will of the people. The referendum is a tangible sign of Poland’s will. I make an appeal: let’s go to the referendum and vote, because it is extremely important for our future and that of our children. This case will determine the EU and the situation in our country for the future. Either we will be safe, or we will have control over population issues in our country, or they will impose their will on us from outside and the protection of the EU’s external borders will become an illusion. We don’t want that to happen. We will defend our security and the stability of our borders
– assured President Andrzej Duda.

The decisive point
Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, in turn, reminded that “the issue of illegal immigration in Poland will be resolved within ten days – on election day and on referendum day.”
It will depend on the voters who will govern and how they will express their views on the issue of illegal immigrants. Today we have proof that Tusk’s party in Europe voted for the migration pact. They say and do one thing in Poland and another in Europe. Wherever their principals are, they follow their orders. It sounds unbelievable, but it happened two days ago, not eight years ago. They voted in favor of accelerating the implementation of the Migration Pact, part of which involves the admission of illegal immigrants by all Member States, and in the event of refusal there are sanctions, the level of which depends on the EC.
– said Prime Minister Morawiecki.
We are at a decisive point about how Poland’s borders will be treated in the future, how Polish sovereignty will be treated. Boundaries are sacred to us. For the Brussels bureaucrats and Tusk’s party, boundaries are outdated. I conclude this from the fact that it was their parliamentarians who said to let them all in, Muslim immigrants from Belarus, who they are will be determined later. They compared the border guards to the Nazis from Auschwitz. And Tusk said that these were poor people who were looking for their place on earth
– reminded the head of government.
There is no permission for wrong policies
A very clear question must be asked as to why we should agree to a diktat from Brussels, a diktat from Berlin. After all, the Germans have been wrong over the past decade on all the major issues where it was possible to be wrong. First, they were wrong about illegal immigration by their policy of inviting tens of millions of illegal immigrants to Europe. Second, they were wrong about their energy policies, and third, they were wrong about Russia, the tragic consequences of which we see today in Ukraine. We do not agree with this diktat, because at the same time we see that it not only does not solve the problem, but also creates an increasing problem, because it effectively means inviting hundreds more boats full of illegal economic migrants to Europe.
– pointed to the head of the government.
Poland is not just going to the European Council to say a hard “no”, a hard veto on imposing illegal immigrants on Poland. (…) I am going to Granada for the European Council summit to issue a strong veto, but also to remember, put forward and put on the table the plan I talked about three months ago ; a plan that is the only possible remedy for what is happening in the field of illegal immigration
– he emphasized.
In June 2018, I issued a strong veto and then we stopped the madness that is being carried out again today. And you could say that the veto had been in effect for several years, so this veto will now also be in effect. Yes, I will veto strongly. But there is one condition: it will be effective, I guarantee you, if we can manage the country’s affairs
– emphasized the head of government during a joint press conference with President Andrzej Duda.
If the government changes to PO, it will be a tragedy. Because then – as Donald Tusk’s party agreed two days ago in Brussels – they will implement the plan to accept illegal immigrants immediately after the elections
– said the Prime Minister.
Such a clear decision by Poland at the international forum would not be possible without the President. This is our common position and our cooperation, no chaos, no tug-of-war, no lack of decision-making due to a clinch, due to mutual arguments. It is the collaboration that has made us effective in the international forum
– emphasized the Prime Minister.
