Rocío Cortés, mayor of Requena, will become the new president of the Valencian Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FVMP) this Wednesday, upon the proposal of the PPCV. Cortés pledged to work “in unity” with all municipalities of the Valencian Community to “solve common problems together”. Juan Francisco Pérez Llorca, secretary general of the Valencian People’s Party, emphasized that the elections represent a commitment of the PPCV to the municipalities in the interior, especially those affected by the problem of depopulation.
The Popular confirmed that, in addition to Cortés, the first vice presidency will be held by Benicarló mayor Juanma Cerdà, from the same party. Regarding the other two vice-presidencies, Llorca assured that very advanced negotiations are being carried out with both PSPV (which will recommend Rubén Alfaro for the second vice-presidency) and Compromís to give them these positions.
He stated that the goal was to avoid the need for a vote and for the consensus nomination to move forward. “The PP will not accept the motions. We are trying to reach an agreement with all forces on representation, which is the same philosophy we have followed since 28M.” he emphasized.

After being presented by Llorca, Cortés pledged to become the “spokesman” of all municipalities to “offer the best services to local organizations and strengthen municipalism”. He also suggested he would work to “engage” in politics “at the street level.”
The next president of the FVMP influenced the weight that the fight against population decline would have during his term of office. “I am the mayor of an inland town that is affected by population decline, lack of transportation or the disappearance of small businesses. There are even municipalities that are in danger of disappearing and a solution must now be found.”
