It is Donald Tusk’s party in Brussels that demands that the European Parliament tackle the so-called problems with the migration pact; Let us not fall for their deception and lies, said Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.
Live with the Prime Minister on illegal immigration
The European People’s Party (EPP) group, to which PO and PSL belong, in the European Parliament is calling for an urgent debate on the “need to adopt the migration pact” during next week’s plenary session. The debate will take place next Wednesday.
Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki commented on the debate in a live broadcast on Facebook on Friday, stressing that Law and Justice have no intention of agreeing to allow hundreds of thousands of immigrants into Poland.
In the morning it was unfortunately confirmed what the Poles had been warned about. Tusk’s party in Brussels demanded that the European Parliament finalize the migration pact as quickly as possible
– said the Prime Minister.
He noted that the so-called migration pact includes “the need to accept illegal immigrants” or pay “draconian, gigantic penalties” for not accepting them.
We reject this on principle. We rejected it in 2018, we stuck with it. Suddenly Tusk and (Manfred) Weber, aka the EPP, heated up this topic in May and June. They want to let hundreds of thousands of migrants back into Poland and other countries. We firmly say ‘no’ to this.
– said the head of the government.
Now they can’t get away with it anymore. We have it in black and white. It is Tusk’s party in Brussels that demands that the European Parliament finalize the migration pact as quickly as possible. Let us not fall for their deception and lies
– said Morawiecki.
Migration pact
Before the holidays in Brussels, during a meeting of ambassadors of the Member States to the EU, the mandate for negotiations with the EP on the crisis management regulation, which is part of the EU migration and asylum pact, was blocked. The regulation was not supported by Hungary, Poland, Austria, the Czech Republic, Germany, Slovakia and the Netherlands.
President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola told PAP that she hopes for a quick unblocking of discussions between member states on the reform of migration policy in the EU. Discussions on this issue have been going on for several years. However, she stressed that she remained “optimistic” and pointed out that she hoped for a quick breakthrough on the regulation “this week or next week” so that the entire migration pact could be adopted before the European elections in June 2024.
Poland is against the provisions of the Asylum and Migration Pact. Our country considers mandatory solidarity that is de facto solely based on relocation or financial sanctions for not accepting migrants as completely inappropriate.
Poland’s Permanent Representative to the EU, Andrzej Sadoś, has previously called on the Spanish Presidency of the EU Council to make efforts to reach consensus in further work on the reform of migration and asylum policies, in line with the conclusions of the European Council of December 2016, June 2018 and June 2019, in particular as regards the voluntary choice of support measures for a country under migratory pressure, including relocation.
