Deputies of the economic committee of the Bulgarian parliament decided that the law on rejecting Russian oil should come into force on October 1, 2024, and not within 30 days. This was reported by Bulgarian National Radio (BNR).
They made this decision during the second reading of the bill. BNR states that the final decision will be made in the general assembly hall.
Speaking before the commission earlier, Economy Minister Bogdan Bogdanov said that a ban on the import of Russian oil for the currently envisaged 30-day period would lead to an increase in fuel prices.
“The realistic expiration date of the derogation is 12 months or October 1, 2024,” he was quoted as saying by BNR.
According to him, if the import of Russian oil is now banned, prices will increase significantly, opportunities for speculation may arise and fuel shortages may occur.
Bulgarian authorities in August accepted Decision to terminate the lease of the Rosenets oil terminal by Lukoil.
