The Committee on Constitutional Legislation of the Federation Council announced that it supports the candidacy of Valery Zorkin for the post of Chairman of the Constitutional Court of the Russian Federation RIA News.
Valery Zorkin presided over the Constitutional Court in 1991-1993 and was re-elected to this position in 2003.
Previously Russian President Vladimir Putin considered worthy President of the Constitutional Court Valery Zorkin with the Order of St. Apostle Andrew the First-Called.
The decision on awarding the highest state award to the Chairman of the Constitutional Court of the Russian Federation was published on the official Internet legal information portal.
The award document states that Zorkin was awarded the Order of St. Andrew the First-Called “for outstanding services to the Motherland and for many years of fruitful government activities.”
The chairman of the Constitutional Court of the Russian Federation will turn 80 on February 18. Valery Zorkin has held this position since March 1993.
