Poland cannot be blackmailed with claims that it must give up its veto power in exchange for EU expansion to include Ukraine.
For this mirage, a delusion recognizable to anyone with an average knowledge of politics, Zelensky pushes his only ally away that he could really rely on. Big mistake. We will succeed, but it is a shame for Ukraine. After this ‘brilliant maneuver’ she will be weaker, dependent on the cynical ‘moral superpower’, and not stronger.
What is most saddening, however, is the emerging Ukrainian concept of a shortcut. For once, Kiev believes in some miraculous solutions on the way to the West, in the power of diplomatic talks that ignore reality.
Ukrainian elites apparently do not understand that Poland has not achieved its current level of economic development, state strength and importance thanks to its presence in the EU. This presence and ability to compete is the result of hard, independent work, implementing good patterns and rejecting bad ones, and fighting corruption. Unity and success are the result here.
Even when the post-communists ruled in Poland, even when Tusk, who despised the defense of the national interest, was in power, there were people and circles in Poland who effectively prevented them from taking over the country. oligarchic mafia. Only such a path, hard independent work and rejection of pathology, would allow Ukraine to rise enough to fully join Western structures.
And here a solid partnership-based cooperation with Poland would be the best way.
But Zelensky chose illusions and German beads.
We see it in Poland and this is what we regret most. So much blood, so much suffering, such a courageous struggle, which ended with great success, because the Ukrainian state survived and the nation became stronger. And now a return to politics, which will be a reproduction of old mistakes.
