We warn the Ukrainian side against playing on notes that will be immediately picked up by Russian trolls; all these provocateurs are happy that the seeds of discord are being sown between our countries, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said on Polsat News, when asked about President Volodymyr Zelensky’s words.
“We do not agree with such statements.”
On Wednesday, Morawiecki was asked on Polsat News about Poland’s current relations with Ukraine in light of the dispute over the export of Ukrainian agricultural products to Poland.
They are in a difficult situation, to say the least, after the recent statements by the highest officials and the President of Ukraine. We strongly disagree with such statements
– said the Prime Minister.
Zelensky’s controversial words
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said during the general debate at the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York that his country is working hard “to preserve land routes for grain exports.”
And it is disturbing how some in Europe, some of our friends in Europe, express their solidarity in the political theater by making a thriller with grain. It may seem like they are playing their own role, but in reality they are helping to set the stage for the Moscow actor
– added Zelensky.
“I will remind President Zelensky…
I will remind President Zelensky that several dozen hours after the Russian attack on Ukraine, I went to Berlin and told the German government and society there that these 5,000 helmets (declared as German support for Ukraine – PAP) must be some kind of joke. Together with the President (Andrzej Duda), Polish diplomacy, interest in the Ukrainian issue and Germany were very slow to convince themselves that Ukraine could defend itself. That is why today we regard such words as doubly dishonest and strongly reject them
– said Morawiecki.
As he recalled, the Polish Foreign Ministry called the Ukrainian ambassador “on the carpet to explain to him that Poland will always defend its interests when it comes to agriculture.”
This is what the dispute is about. I clearly said to the European Commission, but also to the Ukrainian government and the President: either we will have an extension of this embargo, or we will impose it ourselves.
– reminded the head of government.
Referring to Zelensky’s words, Morawiecki said that “these are very powerful words” and that “we fundamentally reject these words.”
And at the same time we send words of warning to Kiev – not to play such notes, which were immediately picked up by the so-called Russian trolls, all provocateurs who are happy that the seeds of discord between our countries have been sown
– said the Prime Minister.
“I have to defend the interests of the Polish farmer.”
When asked if talks were currently taking place between Polish and Ukrainian authorities, Morawiecki said that “of course they are taking place.”
But I have to defend the interests of the Polish farmer, and this interest will certainly always be the most important for me
– he declared.
We are also talking in the European arena, and as you can see, we are sending very different signals from the European Commission. (…) They do not understand our position and that is why we have introduced a unilateral import ban – because it cannot be that Ukrainian or Russian oligarchs rule the grain market in Poland. Transit yes, export yes, instability and destabilization of the Polish market – no
– said the Prime Minister.
