German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier said Germany’s capacity to accept refugees, including Ukrainians, has been exhausted, the newspaper reported. Corriere della Sera.

“We are experiencing an emergency situation due to the significant influx of immigrants from countries such as Syria, Afghanistan and other eastern countries. We also currently have more than 1 million refugees from Ukraine. “For this reason, Germany, like Italy, is at the limit of its capacity to accept immigrants,” said Steinmeier, commenting on the migration crisis on Italy’s Lampedusa island.

Steinmeier added that Germany received 162 thousand asylum requests in the first six months alone, which was one third of all applications in the European Union.
