No one will force us to implement a migration policy that is against Poland’s interests and threatens the security of Polish citizens. We cannot allow the mistakes of France, Germany or Sweden to be repeated, said the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Zbigniew Rau, in an interview with the Nowy Świat 24 portal.
“The world is at risk of returning to politics based on contradictions.
In an interview published on the Nowy Świat 24 website, the Foreign Minister referred to the anniversary of the entry of Soviet troops into Poland on September 17, 1939 and the start of World War II.
As he assessed, “the world risks returning to a politics based on contradictions.”
Therefore, Poland should actively remember the experiences of the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact and then Yalta, in order to prevent the development of such norms of the new era, which will threaten peace in Europe. First of all, we must emphasize that we should not give in to imperialism, or even to imperial tendencies. Democratic states must not accept the norms of behavior imposed by autocratic imperialism
Rau said.
Poland has gained credibility when it comes to reading the intentions of Russian imperialism, and not just for historical reasons. In recent decades, Poland has demanded to remove the threat by expanding NATO to include Georgia and Ukraine. Due to the opposition of Berlin and Paris – where there was hope for a compromise with Russian imperialism – this recommendation was not accepted. As we feared, Russian aggression against Georgia and Ukraine took place. And in December 2021, Russia demanded the withdrawal of NATO troops from Poland and the Baltic states. Poland had to show the way by its own example to the right response to Russian aspirations
– emphasized the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
““You must not succumb to Russian blackmail.”
Rau said that “we have proven that it is possible to express military, political, economic and humanitarian support and that we should not succumb to Russian blackmail and threats of escalation.”
By increasing defense spending, let us make it clear to our allies that after the end of the Russian-Ukrainian war, we will have to take into account the threat of a new Russian attack. Europe itself should be able to repel such conventional aggression on its own. Poland is therefore seen as an ally that is reliable in its assessment of the strategic situation and Russian intentions and that fulfills its obligations to its allies. Hence the increase in our influence in international politics
– he said.
“There is no question of tolerating illegal migration.”
The Minister of Foreign Affairs was also asked about Poland’s migration policy.
Migration policy, like any other public policy, must serve Poland and Polish society. This policy is pursued by all highly developed countries in the world. There is no altruism in it, there are economic interests and the desire to secure the competitiveness of the economy thanks to the aspirations of migrants to improve their own material and social status. However, this policy must meet a number of fundamental conditions
Rau said
Firstly, it cannot lead to a violation of the social order, one of the elements of which is the safety of citizens. Secondly, this policy must be based on respect for freedom, Polish customs and laws. This means that this policy should be conducive to meeting the expectations of Polish entrepreneurs who face a labor shortage in Poland. Let’s not forget that thanks to the rule of law and justice, we have the lowest unemployment in history.
– he said.
The politician added that migration policy should be based on the principle of voluntariness.
Forced relocation will be a source of frustration for both migrants and Polish society. Therefore, there is no question of consent to the forced settlement in Poland by the European Union of migrants who dreamed of settling in another European country. Such ideas threaten the security of Polish citizens. To give Poles the opportunity to evaluate the ideas on resettling illegal migrants, as pushed by the European Commission and some Western European countries, we have announced a referendum on this issue.
– he pointed out.
There is also no question of tolerating illegal migration initiated by the Russian and Belarusian special services. No one will force us to implement a migration policy that is against Poland’s interests and threatens the security of Polish citizens. We cannot allow the mistakes of France, Germany or Sweden to be repeated
– said the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
