Georgian Dream party member and Deputy Speaker of the Georgian Parliament Archil Talakvadze said that Georgia has gained the status of a candidate country to join the European Union (EU) “in all respects”. “We earned candidate status by all fair criteria, and I believe Georgia still deserves candidate status today. According to European recommendations, a lot of work has been done so that the European Commission has every reason to grant candidate status to Georgia, we have done and will do everything by the end of autumn…” Talakvadze said.
He also noted that there are political forces in the country that do not want Georgia to receive candidate status for the European Union. According to Talakvadze, such desires are directed not only towards Georgia, but also towards Europe.

The parliamentarian said hopes for a positive decision on the country’s status as an EU accession candidate were “growing even stronger”.
