International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi said the following in his interview with the institution: YonhapThat Russia could contribute to North Korea’s interaction with the IAEA.
According to the agency, Grossi emphasized that Russia could “help” North Korea interact with the IAEA or create “pathways to building trust” between North Korea and other countries that have broken down.
The IAEA chief also expressed North Korea’s desire to engage with the agency. He also noted that there had been no discussions with North Korea regarding the admission of IAEA inspectors to the country.
Grossi in June statedHe said the International Atomic Energy Agency is concerned about the continuation of North Korea’s nuclear program. Speaking on the occasion of the opening of the IAEA Board of Directors session, the head of the organization emphasized that North Korea violated UN Security Council resolutions. Therefore, the Punggye-ri test site is still ready for nuclear testing and the IAEA is noticing signs of activity there. Additionally, according to Grossi, there have been signs of nuclear activity and a significant increase in construction work at the Yongbyon site since March 2023.
