†To date, PiS has the situation under control and by no means has it lost its potential to make the 2023 elections big enough to retain its power to rule for a third term. But the current political tendencies can easily be reversed, writes Jan Rokita in the latest weekly magazine “Sieci” in the article “War, inflation and elections”.

War
Rokita stresses that “neither the war, the millions of refugees from the east, nor the outbreak of inflation have affected a deeper change in the Polish political scene.”
As in the previous two years, the plague had not caused such a change. In fact, it wouldn’t be surprising if this real series of disasters somehow shook Polish politics or caused a structural change in it. But it’s not like that
– Rokita writes.
The columnist draws attention to the flow of voters between the Confederation and Law and Justice.
Common sense, given the pro-Moscow excesses of some Confederate politicians. Two – that the Eastern War has so far not been a major factor in shaping the Polish political scene. However, this could change over time, if we take into account the potential for negative social change inherent in both the influx of Ukrainians and, in particular, the increasingly dangerous inflation.

Inflation
Rokita also addresses the issue of inflation in his article.
It’s kind of like rising inflation. Until recently, government propaganda only blamed the European Union and its climate policy for the price hikes, even using anti-Brussels billboards to make Poles aware of the EU’s debt. Now Morawiecki’s rate has changed a lot, and in the Prime Minister’s language there is simply no more inflation, just “put inflation”. This kind of propaganda generally works, mainly because it is not quite “black” propaganda, but contains a grain of truth. The negative societal response to PiS’s economic policies is so deftly postponed, which is also aided by the ongoing, albeit in ever-smaller measures, of various “auxiliary shields,” such as a tax cut or the 14th retirement pension.
– Rokita writes.
Can PiS still win?
Rokita stresses that PiS still has the opportunity to win, but it could end. What can influence this?
However, if by then sharp conflicts suddenly break out somewhere around refugees and displaced persons from the East, and the inevitable inhibition of inflation causes economic stagnation, fall in income, unemployment and a sense of social stagnation, current political trends can easily be reversed.
– notes the journalist.
