The “Local Shelf” program is also a way to lower prices for consumers – Agriculture Minister Robert Telus stressed on Wednesday in the first program of Polish Radio. As he said, the government has prepared a law regulating the issue of buying Polish products by supermarkets.
On Wednesday, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Robert Telus, stated in Polish Radio’s Channel One, referring to the “Local shelf” program announced by PiS, that more and more consumers are looking for good food.
Such healthy, good food, and good food is Polish food, and Polish food comes from around the corner, so to speak, straight from the farmer
he said.
This is another way to lower prices for our consumers
stressed the minister. He pointed out that Poland has little own processing of agricultural raw materials.
But if a product is on the local shelf, local processing occurs
he explained.
He explained that farmers will be able to sell their products without intermediaries.
The product will not drive more than 100 km. In Europe, the average displacement of a food product is 170 km
he pointed it out.
Telus said the government has a bill “to allow supermarkets to buy”.
This is also in favor of supermarkets. I was at such a meeting of retail chains and I already told about it last year and they were interested, because then the customer likes to come to their supermarket more. This is to everyone’s advantage. This is concrete for the Polish countryside
stressed the minister.
He pointed out that in Poland there are still “many remnants of Społem, GSs and local shops”.
We will develop it. We will deal with them. We want to help them. It’s important for us to develop these small stores because they are our stores
– said the head of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
He added that he has run the shop for many years.
My store was called “Teli”. People identified with this store. We have to go back to that. The “Local Shelf” will help with this
Telus said.
“Our small processing will be much better”
Telus pointed out that in Poland we have “big companies that decide on the prices of products.”
“Local Shelf” goes in the direction of local processing, our Polish. Our small processing will be much better. We lost it at the moment of transformation, when we were introduced to the EU. Now companies rule
– he said.
We have allocated more than 3 billion PLN for the development of processing, applications have contributed to 6 billion PLN. This means that our local farmers want to replicate this processing
– added.
On Wednesday, PiS announced the ‘Local plank’ program on Twitter.
The third fact of PiS is the ‘Local shelf’ program, ie the obligation for supermarkets to offer at least 2/3 of the vegetables, fruit, dairy and meat products and bread from local suppliers. This strengthens the position of local suppliers in relation to other links in the food supply chain and facilitates consumers’ access to products produced by smaller, including local, producers.
PiS reports this on Twitter.
The adviser to the president, former agriculture minister Jan Krzysztof Ardanowski, said in a video on Twitter that “this change applies to every Pole, because every one of us likes tasty, healthy, Polish food.”
That is why we are introducing the ‘Local shelf’ programme: we will oblige retail chains to work with local food producers
– he said.
