PiS MP Janusz Kowalski (Sovereign Poland) announced at a press conference in front of the German consulate in Opole the start of collecting signatures for a civil law on reparations by Germany.
On Friday, MP Kowalski organized a press conference in front of the consulate of the Federal Republic of Germany in Opole, referring to reparations by Germany for the damage suffered by Poland and its citizens during World War II. The politician of Sovereign Poland inquired about the party’s new initiative.
Today in Opole we are launching an action under the draft Civil Law that obliges the Polish government to submit a report on the state of reparations by September 1. (…) We demand that also the German minority, politicians of the German minority, loyally support the position of the Republic of Poland. We demand that all other politicians always loyally support this position on reparations, to exclude it from political disputes. Today, on the 84th anniversary of the German aggression against Poland, it is important that issues such as reparations do not divide us.
Kowalski said.
“We demand that the Germans return the seized property.”
The politician demands that the issue of reparations for war losses incurred by the Union of Poles in Germany, whose assets were confiscated by the authorities of the Third Reich, be added to the issue.
In September 1939, transports of activists from the Union of Poland in Germany in the 1st district began to leave the Opole railway station for concentration camps. The activists who fight for Polishness in Opole must also be remembered. In addition to reparations, we demand that Germany return the Union’s looted property. These properties have not been returned to German citizens of Polish descent to this day. The works of art, which are still in many German homes, have not returned either
emphasized Kowalski.
The politician assured that he would organize meetings in front of the German consulate in Opole on September 1 every year to summarize the state of affairs regarding reparations owed by Germany to Poland.
During World War II, Poland suffered the greatest personal and material losses of any European country in relation to its total population and national wealth. It is difficult to find an example in the history of contemporary Europe of such a colossal crime that has gone unpunished. As a result of World War II, Poland lost more than 5 million citizens, culture was destroyed and the entire Polish intelligentsia was killed. A team of experts estimated the war damage at PLN 6 trillion 220 billion 609 million
– commented the politician of Sovereign Poland on Twitter.
