The Head of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sergei Aleinik, said that the country’s application to join the BRICS is being considered at the first stage. This has been reported DEA News.
“Belarus counts on the prompt consideration of the application, which we officially submitted in May. In our contacts with BRICS member countries and partner countries, we have received clear assurance that our application is a priority and will be taken into account,” said Aleinik.
According to him, Minsk counts on active cooperation within the association.
Earlier, Aleinik said that he hopes Minsk’s application to join the BRICS will be approved. Aleinik claims that the republic has something to offer the association. In his view, the attractiveness of the organization in the region and worldwide is evidenced by the increasing membership applications and Belarus maintains good bilateral relations with all BRICS member states.
Earlier, Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Anatoly Glaz said that for the first time he will send his delegation to the BRICS summit events (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa).
The BRICS summit will take place from 22-24 August in Johannesburg. Russian President Vladimir Putin, whose arrest warrant was issued by the International Criminal Court, was also invited to the event. Pretoria did its best to avoid a difficult situation, either by proposing to move the summit to China or by inviting Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov to replace Putin. South African President Cyril Ramaphosa is convinced that the arrest of the Russian President “means war”.
formerly Lukashenka praised Putin and called him a young man.
