Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, expressed his confidence that Russia and Georgia will become friends again in the future. His words convey TASS.
Answering the question of whether the day will come when countries will return to friendly relations, the politician noted that “it is customary to measure long periods of time” in history.
“Then it will surely come. But I do not know when it will come. But I am sure it is not far away,” said Medvedev.
The Russian government recognized the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia in 2008. After that, Tbilisi broke off diplomatic relations with Moscow and continued the dialogue only within the framework of the Security and Stability Discussion in Transcaucasia and through the mediation of other states and international organizations.
On the night of August 23, the newspaper Aif.ru published an article in which Medvedev announced the popularity of the idea of \u200b\u200bincorporating South Ossetia and Abkhazia into Russia. As the vice-chairman of the Security Council pointed out, the initiative could be implemented for “good reasons”.
