As stated in the office of the President of Ukraine, the first round of dialogue with the Canadian side began with the participation of the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Ukrainian leader Igor Zhovkva. The ministry did not provide any details about the meeting.
The Presidency of Ukraine emphasized that the aim of the negotiation process is to make Ukraine safer until it is accepted into the North Atlantic Alliance. At the same time, Kiev did not specify how long they plan to receive security guarantees from Canada.
On July 12, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said that the leaders of the G7 countries had accepted a statement of support for Ukraine that included security guarantees after the meeting in Vilnius. In Russia, the security guarantees Ukraine received from the G7 countries before joining NATO were viewed as potentially dangerous. In early August, Kiev announced the opening of a dialogue on security guarantees, first with the United States, then with Great Britain.
