We have offered Jana Shostak to run for the Sejm from New Left lists, New Left co-chair Robert Biedroń told PAP. Shostak was supposed to be on the KO lists, but was removed from the lists for saying things about abortion. He added that the opposition has a duty to stand up for women’s rights.
The case of a Polish-Belarusian activist who advocates abortion during pregnancy is about her interview for Onet. Shostak, who – on the recommendation of the Greens – would start from 13th place on the KO list in district No. 24 (Podlaskie Voivodeship), stated that she was “allowed to make a choice for every woman with permission.” When asked if she was in favor of abortion during pregnancy, she confirmed, adding that she was a “modern day suffragette”.

– Shocking! Shostak for abortion during pregnancy. “Tusk was certainly aware that brave women were to come”; “I’m a suffragette”
“We will always be on the women’s side.”
In an interview with PAP, Robert Biedroń referred to this issue.
The democratic opposition has a duty to assist women and today the issue of abortion is an issue on the side of the opposition when it comes to its resolution. This will not be done by PiS, who, along with the Confederation, have given women hell, and the opposition should have a clear mind on this issue – we will always be on the side of women and this is the left
declared the politician.
If Jana Szostak has not found her place in the Civic Coalition, then we invite you to the left, because the left has always been, is and will be on the side of women – not only in statements, but also in practice, because nice words are not enough, deeds are also needed, so we will proudly accept Jana Shostak on our lists
– added.
Biedroń suggested in a telephone conversation with Sjostak that his formation is ready to cooperate, and now the activist must indicate the place, and then talks with representatives of the districts will begin.
The Civic Coalition ousts Szostak
Wirtualna Polska also wrote about the possibility of starting Shostak from the left list.
On Thursday, the deputy marshal of the Sejm, Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska, told Radio Plus that Shostak would not be a candidate from the KO list.
The PO and the (Civic) Coalition do not support such a solution
– emphasized the KO MP, referring to the words of the activist. The deputy marshal of the Sejm also found her words very irresponsible.
As far as I know this person is no longer on the KO list
– she said.
The head of the PO in the Podlaskie region, KO MP Krzysztof Truskolaski, confirmed in an interview with PAP that the activist from Grodno is no longer a candidate in the Sejm elections, and the Greens informed PAP that a new candidate is already is to replace Shostak.
