The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Sergey Lavrov, said at the BRICS summit in Johannesburg that it is not planned to change the name of the BRICS after the accession of the new member states.

“Everything has become a brand so that the name stays the same,” he said.

Lavrov added that none of the new members of the association proposed a name change.

Noting that this will emphasize the continuity of BRICS’ work, the Minister said, “It is better to leave everything as it is.”

The BRICS summit will take place from 22-24 August in Johannesburg. Russian President Vladimir Putin, whose arrest warrant was issued by the International Criminal Court, was also invited to the event. Pretoria did its best to avoid a difficult situation, either by proposing to move the summit to China or by inviting Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov to replace Putin. South African President Cyril Ramaphosa is convinced that the arrest of the Russian President “means war”. More details – in the material “Newspapers.Ru”.
