Mariusz Witczak, MP for the Civic Platform, fell from first place in the previous elections to the Sejm to seventh on the list, giving way to many politicians. Local activists told PAP, “This is slander for him.”
Witczak dropped to 7th place. “The decision belonged to Donald Tusk”
PAP wanted to ask MP Witczak how he estimated his electoral chances and the fact that he was only awarded seventh place on the list. However, the parliamentarian’s phone is silent.
On Wednesday, the national board of the PO announced candidates for the elections to the Sejm and Senate from the lists of the Civic Coalition. Whereas in the previous elections the form of the list from the Kalisz-Leszczyński constituency was determined by PO MP Mariusz Witczak, politicians from the Kalisz structures had no influence on the final form of the lists this year.
The decision belonged to Donald Tusk and his close circle
one of the PO activists told PAP.
In the end, the first place was taken by Member of Parliament Jarosław Urbaniak from Ostrów Wlkp., who was also Deputy Secretary General of the PO. In second place was Karolina Pawliczak, who left the ranks from the left in June. Third place went to the district councilor.
“This is already a clear slander to him.”
Local PO activists told PAP they expected Mariusz Witczak to “get a bad place on the list, but none of us expected seventh”.
This is a clear slander to him
they assessed.
The Pawliczak dispute
According to them, the press conference that Witczak had called a few weeks ago, where he spoke out against Karolina Pawliczak, would also hurt him.
Tusk may not like this
they commented.
When Witczak was asked at a conference in Kalisz a few weeks ago whether Pawliczak had been invited to run for the list, Witczak said he knew nothing about it and that it would be better if the MP returned to the left.
Our position is simple. We believe that the MP should return to the left as soon as possible and “discuss” with the left. They argued unnecessarily about the place on the lists. There are voters who voted for her and they will be very disappointed, so the best way to respect voters and democracy is to return to the left
said Witczak.
Witczak’s statement was criticized by his fellow party members. PO MP Jarosław Urbaniak then told PAP he was surprised Witczak spoke this way.
It seems to me that our electorate expects unity from us and broad, joint elections. During the list building, pre-election or campaign period, I do not judge other people who are candidates or candidates for candidates from the same political camp
– said the PO MP.

Witczak with support from Sikorski
On Wednesday, a message recommending Witczak for the election appeared on the official profile of the Civic Coalition of Kalisz.
He always stood on the right side of the barricade and never failed. Engaged in efforts to secure key development projects for our region and defend the country against PiS, he demonstrated courage, dedication and loyalty to our values. It is the voters who decide who represents our city in parliament. Let’s choose a proven and responsible parliamentarian that we recommend as the Kalisz Civic Platform
– informed the Kalisz Civic Coalition in a post.
This statement was enriched with a video featuring Radosław Sikorski, former foreign minister.
If I lived in Kalisz, I would vote for Witczak
Sikorski said.
Is it something else? “The Schetyna Man”
A local journalist from the portal Faktykalskie.info, Marcin Spętany, told PAP that Witczak’s low position on the electoral list may be due to PO voters in Kalisz growing impatient with the ineffectiveness of local PO politicians and expecting staff changes .
Regardless of the national puzzles and the fact that MP Witczak is a “man of Schetyna”, I also see local and political reasons here. The Kalisz platform has a lot of support, as shown by the results in the presidential elections of Rafał Trzaskowski or even Mariusz Witczak himself. In 2019, he won 36,000 votes from “one” – the best result in the district. Local structures could not make this support a real success. They proposed most to the city council, as they could not agree on a possible government coalition with eight council members, eventually their club split into two parts. And the last time they were in local government was ten years ago. Their constituents can grow impatient with their ineffectiveness and expect personnel changes
– he said.
