EU Foreign Service spokesman Peter Stano said Brussels could recommend granting Georgia candidate status for EU membership this fall. It was reported on the newspaper’s website “News”.
He emphasized that Tbilisi must fulfill all the conditions of the European Union in order to receive membership candidate status.
Stano noted that the European Commission will present an assessment of whether the conditions proposed by the EC have been fulfilled by the Georgian side and will present a recommendation on whether to grant candidate status to Georgia in the autumn of 2023.
Before that, opposition MP Paata Manjgaladze declarationThat the Georgian authorities were able to implement only three of the 12 recommendations of the European Commission, the implementation of which will help the country gain candidate status to join the European Union.
He added that if the Georgian leadership does not cause problems, the republic will most likely receive EU candidate status. Manjagaladze stressed that Georgian authorities should leave the “Russian narrative” behind to assist this process.
