Evgeny Zagainov, Permanent Representative of Russia to ASEAN, believes that Australia and Japan are among the countries that can contribute to the promotion of the North Atlantic Alliance in the Asia-Pacific Region (APR), transmits TASS. According to him, these countries can be called “Trojan horses” in the region.

“A number of Asia-Pacific countries are ready to help advance this NATO Euro-Atlantic agenda. Therefore, we must remain vigilant and watch what is happening. In terms of who the “Trojans” in this region are, naturally, we are talking primarily about countries such as Japan, Australia, New Zealand, South Korea,” explained Zagainov.

The Asia-Pacific region brings together 58 countries and regions, the largest integration groups operating in the region, notably the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). NATO is actively trying to cooperate with regional powers, notably Japan, Australia and South Korea. At the bloc’s summer summit in Lithuania, it was decided to strengthen cooperation with Asia-Pacific countries under the pretext of tackling common security issues together.
