I refused to participate in the senate pact in a situation where the left announced that it would field an opposing candidate for me after all, lawyer Roman Giertych announced on Twitter on Wednesday. “They are not disturbed by people who were in PiS until recently. I disturb them,” Giertych wrote.
Negotiations on the Senate pact have been going on for several weeks and are nearing completion, according to unofficial PAP information. Decisions on candidates have been made in more than 90 of the 100 Senate districts. Officially, it was not known what decision would be made regarding Roman Giertych. The former deputy prime minister and former leader of the League of Polish Families announced on social media at the end of May that he intended to run for Senate from his own committee from Poznań district in the fall elections. He added that he counted on the support of the opposition groups who communicated within the framework of the Senate Pact.
Refusal to take off
Giertych said in Wednesday’s Twitter post that he refused to start with the so-called Senate Pact in a situation where the left announced that it would field a counter-candidate against him after all.
He estimated that “due to campaign errors from the left, another poll shows they are not entering the Sejm, and almost 5 percent of them are not entering the Sejm. The majority of the opposition electorate is wasted, but there goes left no.
They have other priorities successfully blocked my candidacy for the Senate as part of the pact. Mr. Zandberg and Biejat’s announcements that even if I went running in the constituency indicated by the pact (Olsztyn was offered to me), they would quietly throw a left-wing opponent before me, made my start in such a formula pointless. Because they meant that the left is vetoing such that in my case the pact does not apply to them. They are not disturbed by people who were in PiS until recently. They are not disturbed by those who have openly voted anti-constitutional laws with PiS. They were not disturbed by those who legitimized theft and looting. I disturb them
– we read in Giertych’s entry.
He added that in such a situation, his refusal to run from Olsztyn “is obvious, because not only would he have to deal with an independent senator backed by PiS (which is more difficult than PiS itself), He would also have a left-wing candidate on his back who would split votes”.
In addition, my motivation to fight the generally positive Lidia Staroń would not be the same as in the case of PiS candidates. My intention was to act against PiS and ensure, using the Senate’s mandate, that PiS activists are held accountable for the crimes they have committed. I wanted to be a non-professional senator who would spend his time off from legal work overseeing how PiS would be held accountable because I was and still am afraid that Mr. Dworczyk would tap the shoulder during his visit to the meeting with Mrs. Nowacka and Mr. homage Symists on Campus, organized by the opposition, will be a symbol of how we will treat PiS after the elections
Giertych explained.
Giertych thunders about the settlement of PiS
According to him, “a matter of reckoning is not a matter of revenge”.
The issue of PiS accountability is a question of Poland’s future as a serious country. This is fundamental. If we give PiS a pat on the back even after the elections have been won, PiS will come back. “Because the plague always comes back.” And it will be even worse than now. I observed this in 2007 when I enabled the opposition to win. And sadly, PiS has returned
the politician remembered.
He judged that “because his Senate mandate would somehow bolster demand for this settlement, he was subjected to a vigorous attack not only from PiS, but also from symmetrists, the left and those within the opposition for whom no settlement has been reached is important, because in some cases it can refer to itself.
For years they courted PiS, so they were not targets of attacks, and now they organized a campaign against me, because I announced that they would take care of the essence of this courtship. The proposal to start from an extremely difficult district as part of a pact that one of the parties publicly announced that it did not want to keep was a fictitious proposal, because it had no chance of success. However, lack of success would weaken my demand to hold PiS accountable. That is why I have sent my final reply to the Pact today. Start in a formula in which I would accept the choice of the district for me, m. by the left, which at the same time announces that it will break the formula of the pact and do everything to make me lose is impossible. It would mean playing a game where one of the players announces in advance that he is cheating
he stressed.
I am sure the opposition will win this election. And I will do everything I can to make it that way. Unfortunately, I believe that the opposition’s victory will come against the left, or at least part of it. Just like in 2015, they are doing everything they can to facilitate PiS’ victory
he pointed it out.
