Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that during the negotiation process with Azerbaijan, the Armenian authorities attach special importance to their sovereignty and the security of ethnic Armenians living in Karabakh. In an interview with AFP, he noted that these factors are Yerevan’s “red lines” in the dialogue with Baku.
“In our view, the issue of the rights and security of the people of Nagorno-Karabakh should be resolved with their participation through dialogue, negotiation and discussion. We call it the Baku-Stepanakert dialogue,” he said.
He added that Armenia insists on conducting such negotiations with the participation of mediators in order to prevent Azerbaijan from pushing its own terms. Pashinyan emphasized that he believes that a sustainable peace can be achieved with Baku, but does not exclude the resumption of conflicts if the negotiations fail.
“However, what I believe does not mean that we are guaranteed results, because of course it is not up to me alone,” said the Armenian Prime Minister.
