European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on Thursday called on Russian President Vladimir Putin to renew the agreement allowing the safe export of Ukrainian grain through the Black Sea.
The head of the European Commission stressed that the consequence of Russia not renewing the grain deal will be global food insecurity.
The ball is now on the Russian side, the whole world is watching
Von der Leyen told a press conference in Brussels.
The grain agreement, which guarantees the safe export of grain and fertilizers from Ukraine through the Black Sea, expires on Monday, concluded in July 2022 by Ukraine, Russia, Turkey and the UN. This agreement has been extended several times, but the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on July 4 that it saw no possibility of continuing this initiative.
