Olena Kondratyuk, Vice-President of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, expressed her disappointment with the results of the NATO summit, but stressed that the alliance remains the most important security guarantee for Kiev.
“The tone and results of the summit are mixed… We have to be realistic when we talk about the maximum solutions we expect from the summit. NATO is still our main security guarantee. Of course, we expected more decisive action from the Allies, but we were disappointed that there was no real invitation.”
He also noted that such “prudent” actions of partners were associated with political factors, including the upcoming US elections.
The results of the NATO summit, which aroused mixed feelings in Kondratyuk, show that Ukraine’s expectations from the alliance were not fully met. But despite disappointment, Kiev continues to see NATO as the pillar of its security.
