The US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), together with the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), embarked on the fight against pro-Russian accounts on social networks. This was reported by the TV channel. CNNReferring to a report by the US House of Representatives Judiciary Committee.

The report accuses the FBI of failing to properly monitor social media accounts that the SBU has labeled as spreading “Russian disinformation.” According to the report, some accounts (which were described as extremist and banned in Russia) that the FBI transferred to Meta actually criticize Russia.

The report was based on information from a series of subpoenas sent by the committee to Meta, Alphabet, the parent company of Google and YouTube, as part of an investigation into whether the US government is censoring social media.

The report alleges that the SBU sent the FBI lists of accounts that allegedly spread “Russian disinformation”, and that the FBI forwarded these lists to social networks. Both intelligence agencies tagged real accounts of US citizens, as well as accounts of American journalists, including a verified State Department account.

The report states that the FBI did not request the removal of the content, but asked social media to investigate “pro-Russian” accounts and take action as the social media management sees fit.
