Senate President Tomasz Grodzki went on a trip to Germany. The meeting with the head of the Bundestag Baerbel Bas in Berlin discussed issues related to the war in Ukraine, the learning of Polish in Germany and the reform of the judiciary in Poland, which attracted the attention of commentators. But not alone. The photos posted on social media by the Senate Chancellery do not look for the Polish flag. “Marshal Grodzki flew to Berlin under what flag?” – Internet users wonder.
Why did Grodzki go to Berlin?
The Polish delegation is visiting the Federal Republic of Germany at the invitation of the President of the Federal Council, Peter Tschentscher.
We raised issues related to the war in Ukraine, the subject of pseudo-reforms of the judiciary in Poland, as a result of which we still cannot wait for the money from the Kajowy reconstruction plan and the payment of the fines imposed by the CJEU
said the president of the senate.
We also talked about education issues and about the memorial to the victims of World War II that will be built in Berlin. This process is ongoing, but we proposed to speed it up a bit if possible, so that it would be created before the 85th anniversary of the German attack on Poland, i.e. in 2024.
– added.
He noted that, in his view, the will to speed up this process was evident among his German interlocutors. He expressed satisfaction that this commemoration aims to “build a good story by remembering a difficult history and honoring the victims”.
The Senate Marshal added that he also had an unscheduled meeting with the head of the German Ministry of Agriculture, Cem Oezdemir, about the export of Ukrainian grain, which – he noted – is difficult to export because Polish ports are too very little transhipment capacity.

Which country does Grodzki represent?
Internet users’ attention was caught by the photos posted online by the Senate Chancellery. It is standard practice that when a representative of a particular country visits another country, the guest and host state flags are placed in the representative places. When representatives of Armenia visited the Senate in recent days, the flag of Armenia was placed next to the flags of Poland and the EU. The same applied to the visit of the representative of Japan.
However, the photos documenting Grodzki’s meeting with the President of the Bundestag do not even show a piece of the Polish flag.
Where is the Polish flag? Is this a visit to Germany by an EU official or the President of the Senate of the Republic of Poland? In comparison, a similar visit by the President of the Bundestag to the Senate – the German flag was then taken care of
– underlined the Deputy Marshal of the Senate, Marek Pęk.
The Germans know that if they receive a butler, they don’t have to take care of the butler’s flag. Grodzki will understand, thank you and smile
– pointed to Wojciech Biedroń.
In this video it seems that the president of the Bundestag met Grodzki at the exit of the canteen or somewhere else
– added Pawel Rybicki.
Under what flag did Marshal Grodzki fly to Berlin?
@sbalcerac wondered.
I understand that you have remained private because there is no Polish flag
– wrote Grażyna Świerczyńska.
A utter Unionist. President of the Senate of the Republic of Poland, Tomasz Grodzki, during a visit “for instructions” in Berlin. European Union logo and German flag. Nothing surprised!
– Added “Przesympatyczna Renata”.
Apparently Grodzki no longer represents Poland! What are they planning in Berlin?
@romanzs wondered.
A German woman under the German flag, a Pole under the EU flag. Civic Platform’s attitude towards Poles and the Poles in one very symbolic picture
Wiktor Kos pointed it out.
Which country does Grodzki represent? Is there a flag of the country it represents in the room?
