The powers of NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg on 4 July may be extended by the member states of the North Atlantic Alliance. This was reported by the agency citing anonymous diplomatic sources. Reuters.

Reuters recalls that in February of this year, Stoltenberg, 64, said he did not intend to remain Secretary General of the North Atlantic Alliance for another term. However, NATO member states could not agree on the nomination of the incumbent Secretary-General’s successor, so they asked Stoltenberg to resume this post.

According to the documents, among those discussed as candidates were British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace, who had made it clear that he wanted to take the position, and Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, who publicly denied such a possibility.
