Germany wants to close the issue of reparations at all costs. Our diplomatic, political and informational activities must be intensified to force the Germans to start serious talks before our elections – says Deputy Foreign Minister Arkadiusz Mularczyk in an interview for “Nasz Dziennik”.
The deputy head of Polish diplomacy was asked in an interview with “Nasz Dziennik” about the consequences of previous meetings with German representatives regarding claims for war losses caused by the Third Reich.
In May, during my last visit to Berlin, I was invited to the German Association for Foreign Policy (GDAP). There I heard that Germany is ready to start talks, but that is not going to happen before the parliamentary elections, because the German government does not want to help PiS win the elections.
When the Germans hoped to hush up the matter of compensation after a possible opposition victory, he replied:
There is such a threat, although the research on reparations currently enjoys a lot of public support. Poles are more and more aware of both the sheer magnitude of the losses inflicted on us by the Germans and the fact that we have not been compensated for these losses. International awareness of this problem is growing. It will not be so easy to take the subject of reparations to Poland off the agenda.
Diplomatic activities
According to Mularczyk, “Our diplomatic, political and information activities must be intensified to force the Germans to start serious talks before our elections.”
We must carry out extensive information activities in Germany and direct them from right to left to all groups. Behind the river Oder, knowledge and awareness of responsibility for the Second World War have been displaced. In addition, the Germans begin to create an alternate history in which they are victims of the Nazis.
According to the State Secretary, Germany wants to close the issue of reparations at all costs.
Therefore, their diplomacy does everything to weaken the attempts of Poles or Greeks to obtain compensation or reparations for war losses
