Today, a tunnel under the Świna strait will be put into operation, connecting the island of Wolin to the island of Uznam, where the administrative and service center and the coastal area of Świnoujście are located, and thus, after several decades, the communication problems of the inhabitants and tourists of the city will finally end.
Tunnel under Świna
The investment, which has been planned for many decades and delayed many times (most recently Donald Tusk resigned in October 2010 claiming he did not have the resources for it, although the project was to be carried out mainly from EU funds), carried out in cooperation with the local government of this city, and the cost of PLN 1 billion was financed by the sectoral program Infrastructure and Environment and the city funds (in the ratio of more than PLN 800 million and more than PLN 150 million).
The investment includes the aforementioned tunnel through Świna Street, as well as two carriageways in both directions, separated by a concrete wall, with a total length of 3.2 km, together with the road infrastructure leading to the tunnel.
The announcement of the commissioning of this investment also caused a lively discussion in the German media, which claim that tourists from this country will now choose to rest on the Polish side of the border, due to lower prices and easier access to Świnoujście.
Digging the Vistula Spit
Let us remind you that on the anniversary of the Russian attack on Poland on September 17 last year, another major investment was ordered, “Przekop Mierzei Wiślanej”, which allowed our country to freely use the waters of the Vistula Lagoon.
This investment, the total cost of which is estimated at around PLN 2 billion and is fully covered by the Polish budget, is of great regional importance, following the completion of the deepening of the Elbląg Canal and the modernization of the port, thanks to the sea, Elbląg will become the fourth important Polish port, moreover it will be a strong stimulus for the development of the entire region.
In addition, it is invaluable to gain independence from Russia, which until now, by controlling the Piławska Strait, decided who can influence, or rather, much more often, who cannot influence the Vistula Lagoon, especially following the signing of a new agreement with Russia by the Tusk government in 2009, the impact of Polish units on the Vistula Lagoon was kept to an absolute minimum.
Baltic Pipe gas pipeline
In the autumn of last year, the Baltic Pipe gas pipeline was also commissioned, which saved our energy security when Russia blocked the gas supply to our country via the Yamal gas pipeline as early as April.
Let us remind you that this investment was prepared in cooperation with Norway and Denmark by the AWS government of Prime Minister Jerzy Buzek, but in 2001 the government of Leszek Miller resigned, the PiS government returned to her in 2006, but again The Donald Tusk government resigned there in 2008 after the slogan of excess gas in Poland.
Minister Piotr Naimski, who has been involved with this project from the start, has had to make a lot of effort to convince the Norwegians and Danes that the preparations for this investment will not be in vain this time and this time it will be implemented.
This is exactly what happened, and already on October 1 of this year, the first gas from Norway flowed through the pipeline. By the end of the previous year, it sent about 3 billion m3 to Poland, and this year its full transport capacity, ie 10 billion m3, will be used. This is actually an important investment that will enable Poland to become gas independent from Russia, which started operating in a situation where Russia even put a gas gun to the head of most of its existing gas receivers, including our country.
Tunnel under Luboń Mały mountain
In turn, in mid-November of the previous year, Poland’s longest tunnel, more than 2 km long, was put into operation along the S-7 highway, between the towns of Repair and Skomielna Biała, built under Luboń Mały mountain.
The tunnel has two aisles, each with two lanes, each 3.5 m wide and an emergency lane of 3 m. A suitable door that is fire-resistant for at least 120 minutes.
Inside the tunnel there is also a separate emergency passage, intended only for emergency services, with a width of 3.5 m and a height of 3.3 m, which guarantees access for emergency services to any place in the tunnel, regardless of what is on the road. happening away. roads on which they drive cars. The implementation of the investment took more than 5 years, despite the fact that the tunnel was drilled 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, because dangerous landslides occurred during the execution, even requiring the redesign of the structures.
The cost of this investment was about PLN 1 billion and was financed for about half both from the Polish budget and from EU funds from the Operational Program “Infrastructure and Environment”.
Investments in the LNG terminal in Świnoujście
In autumn 2023, another tank for liquefied gas will be commissioned at the LNG terminal in Świnoujście. Lech Kaczyński, which means that no less than 8.3 billion m3 of LNG gas can be purchased annually.
The LNG terminal, which can receive 5 billion m3 of gas, was commissioned in 2016 and immediately the government of Law and Justice decided to expand it, which will significantly increase the capacity to the aforementioned 8.3 billion m3 , so next to the Baltic Pipe , it is the second pillar of Polish gas independence.
This summer also starts the implementation of a new major investment of a strategic nature, namely the construction of the Central Communication Port on 800 hectares, acquired as part of voluntary buyouts, and this investment will be commissioned in early 2027 and 2028.
Preparations are also being made for the construction of approximately 2,000 m². km of new railway lines, which are part of the STH and should significantly improve the communication of different parts of our country with the new airport itself, but also with each other.
All these major strategic investments have been commissioned in recent months and preparations have been made for the realization of the STH and 2,000 m². Kilometers of new railway lines were built at a rapid pace.
