It is too early to draw such scenarios. I don’t know if anyone has raised this aspect at the moment, Deputy Interior and Administration Minister Błażej Poboży said on Polish Radio’s first program on Thursday, referring to the implementation of a state of emergency in the border area.
Will the government declare a state of emergency?
When asked about the implementation of the state of emergency due to the threat from the east in the border area, Błażej Poboży, deputy head of the Interior and Administration, replied that he was not aware that anyone had raised this aspect at the moment.
Stories like this are spread by opposition politicians who, I believe, are already looking for a justification for their possible electoral defeat. The situation has changed significantly in recent days, but it is still too early to draw such scenarios
said Pobozy.
When asked whether it is considering stopping traffic in the border area, he emphasized that he did not think it was necessary.
The current situation is such that we have the most professional, the best solution in Europe, and who knows, if not in the world, in terms of border control. I mean both the technical dam and the perimeter dam, which is a great support for our professional border guard
said Pobozy.
Strengthening the border
When asked about the decision to strengthen defenses on the eastern border in connection with the presence of the Wagner group in Belarus, he pointed out that this was a postulate already raised by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration.
When we talk about reinforcement, our barrier is the base, but the reinforcement may consist of the increased presence of officers of services subordinated to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration, ie mainly border guards, as well as the Polish police. The police played an important role in that famous immigrant attack in Kuźnica, which was after all the culmination of the hybrid operation against Poland
said Pobozy.
He added that the army can also make appropriate shifts and increase the number of soldiers at the border, and the issue of agreements on this subject will take place in the next hours or days between PiS President Jarosław Kaczyński and the heads of ministries of power.
“A new phase of hybrid warfare”
Deputy Prime Minister Jarosław Kaczyński announced at a press conference with the head of the Ministry of National Defense, Mariusz Błaszczak, after the meeting of the Council of Ministers Committee on National Security and Defense Affairs on Wednesday that due to the presence of the Wagner Group in Belarus, decisions taken to defend our eastern border, both temporarily and permanently. This applies both to the increase in the number of troops stationed there and to obstacles and fortifications on the border.
This is an element that is dangerous for Ukraine and the Ukrainians are aware of this. It is also potentially dangerous for Lithuania, and finally it can be dangerous for us as well. It could mark a new phase of hybrid warfare, one much more difficult than the one we’ve covered so far
Kaczynski said.
In this context, decisions have been taken to strengthen our defenses on the eastern border, both in terms of certain ad hoc projects and projects that will have a permanent character.
he inquired.
As he noted, this reinforcement “refers both to the increase in the forces that are constantly present there, and to the increase in the number of different types of obstacles and fortifications that should protect our border in case it comes under attack.”
There is no such certainty, of course, but security policy is by nature focused on worst-case scenarios, and guided by this principle we had to make such decisions
Kaczynski added.
