It was a day of very important political talks we held on the upcoming NATO summit, support for Ukraine and the international situation – said President Andrzej Duda in Przemyśl on Wednesday evening, summarizing the meeting in Kiev with the presidents of Ukraine and Lithuania .
On Wednesday, the President of the Republic of Poland, Andrzej Duda, together with the President of Lithuania, Gitanas Nauseda, visited Kiev in connection with the 27th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution by the Supreme Council of Ukraine in 1996.
President Duda returned to the country on the night from Wednesday to Thursday and issued a statement to the media at the train station in Przemyśl summarizing the meeting.
Another trip to Kiev to support our Ukrainian allies fighting Russian aggression has come to an end. I am very happy that we were able to celebrate their Constitution, an important holiday, with our neighbors. Let me remind you that a few years ago when we celebrated the 230th anniversary of the May 3rd Constitution, we celebrated this as an important event for us. Presidents of the countries of the former Republic of Poland, our neighbors today, eg also the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, was with us in Warsaw at that time. It was all the more important for us to be with them also on their Constitution Day in these difficult times when Ukraine is fighting against the Russian invasion
– he said.
The president stressed that “it was also a day of very important political talks in Kiev about the upcoming NATO summit, support for Ukraine and the international situation.”
Also everything that has happened in Russia in recent days, exactly on Saturday. Since Saturday you can say in a way +happening+, that is the rebellion of the Wagner group, which we have observed, and the decisions that are being made today. We talked about the assessment of these events by our Ukrainian neighbors, by President Volodymyr Zelensky, Prime Minister Shmyhal, by other Ukrainian politicians
he inquired.
Duda noted that he had many interesting conversations in Kiev, especially in the context of his recent visit to The Hague, where he met with prime ministers from Western European countries, among others.
I have also had very important political talks about what the NATO summit will bring to Ukraine. We discussed many important issues for our cooperation, including those related to the future reconstruction of Ukraine. I hope that in the last days left before the NATO summit, international talks will certainly continue
he assured.
The president recalled that next week he will make an official visit to Lithuania, where he will meet with President Nauseda, among others.
We will have final talks before the upcoming NATO summit. These are the actions that we carry out all the time, to build as much as possible for Poland’s security in this regard
– said Andrzej Duda.
The president noted that the activities are also intended to strengthen NATO’s eastern flank, particularly in the context of recent events in Russia.
I think it will be very important, in a way it will become a new topic for the NATO summit. In particular, if we compare the probable relocation of at least some soldiers of the Wagner group to Belarus and Prigozhin himself, the leader of the group. And the relocation of tactical nuclear weapons to Belarus announced by Russia
– added.
According to the president, these are subjects that NATO should focus on.
This is what we will expect as allies and will certainly be the subject of our upcoming discussions. Also work to strengthen and strengthen the security of the Republic of Poland, all of us, our part of Europe within the North Atlantic Alliance and currently support Ukraine so that it can expel the Russians from its territory as much as possible, and defend itself against Russian aggression – these are the main tasks that we perform today for the security of Poland
Duda assured.
Lithuania’s President Gitanas Nauseda, who did not participate in the briefing, also got off at the train station in Przemyśl. After a brief conversation with Duda, he left in a column of cars.
