“When we asked the British to collect their rubbish, the British side cleared it up, did the right thing and the case was closed. The Germans, on the other hand, in accordance with their hypocrisy, say one thing and do another,” Jacek Dekora, secretary of state at the Ministry of Climate and Environment, told the wPolityce.pl portal.
German waste vs British waste
Poland demands in vain that Berlin remove German waste from Polish territory. The Minister of Climate and Environment Anna Moscow announced today that Poland will lodge a complaint with the CJEU in this regard. I asked MKiŚ’s Secretary of State, Jacek Dekora, for comment.
The German side avoids the responsibility of cleaning up the places where their waste imported from Germany is dumped. According to EU regulations and treaty policy, the person who sends the waste is obliged to take it back in the event of irregularities.
says the politician.
We have completed the procedure on the Polish side, we have been calling on Berlin for many years to refer to this, to initiate a procedure and to remove this waste, but it is not implementing it. That is why we decided to go to the CJEU, because there is no tolerance for German waste in Poland. We have long since tightened the system of cross-border waste transport and increased fines. The German side is obliged to clean up what lies behind it
he adds.
And an interesting fact: when we asked the British to collect their rubbish, the British side cleaned it up, did the right thing and the case was closed. However, the Germans, in keeping with their hypocrisy, say one thing and do another
– emphasizes the Deputy Minister of Climate and Environment.
“Germany treats Poland as a country of inferior category”
Minister Moscow also said today that there are issues surrounding German waste on which it is completely impossible to reach an agreement with Berlin and that all actions by Poland are proving ineffective.
There were such talks and letters on both the side of the former government and the current governing coalition in Germany, but each time they were unsuccessful
– confirms Jacek Dekor.
My interlocutor talked about hypocrisy, but you also see signs of German arrogance here. This is because Germany has repeatedly instructed Poland, including on environmental protection.
Germany has long shown that it treats Poland as a lower category country. It can be said that the tradition of their grandparents is carried on, and it consists of treating people as objects, and countries like Poland – as places that can simply be littered. We disagree, because we are talking about a country that – it seems – cares a lot about the environment. Meanwhile, when we talk about Fit for 55, Germans support these solutions, and at the same time – they can not clean up several places where their garbage is
– evaluates Deputy Minister Dekor.
What can we expect from the CJEU ruling?
Can we count on a positive handling of complaints submitted to the CJEU?
If a judge belonging to the political community of the European People’s Party rules, then of course there will be a question about the political decision of the judiciary, but all resources must be exhausted and we must take such measures
– explains the State Secretary of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.
Let us not forget that Judge La Puerta, who settled cases related to Turów, also ruled in disputes between Poland and the Czech Republic on waste management. But the paradox was that it was NGOs that asked the Czechs to take the rubbish out of Poland. Judge La Puerta, on the other hand, sided with the criminals
he concludes.
